Education and Industry Collaboration: Closing Workforce Hiring Gaps
Our team believes in the necessity of cross-sector collaboration to close workforce gaps. This week, we wanted to highlight an education-industry partnership that will help close the projected shortfall of technicians in the semiconductor industry: Grand Canyon University’s (GCU) Manufacturing Specialist Intensive (MSI) funded by TSMC Arizona. The semester-long program is tuition-free for students and rewards them with industry-recognized credentials and the opportunity to interview for TSMC. According to TSMC Arizona’s Head of Talent Acquisition, MJ Brosowske, people employed after completing GCU’s course have a “leg up" when starting their training, as they’re already familiar with equipment and technical language surrounding the field. To learn more about the MSI, watch this interview with Shelly Seitz from GCU and Christine Dotts from TSMC Arizona.
Grand Canyon University’s MSI program, and other technical training opportunities for students, demonstrate how education and industry can align to build Arizona’s future workforce.
