Happy New Years

As we begin the new year, we’re taking a moment to reflect on the momentum behind TechSmart’s launch this fall, and the broader transformation underway across Arizona’s economy. From its deep manufacturing roots to its emergence as a national leader in advanced manufacturing and technology, Arizona is redefining the national tech landscape. Arizona’s industrial sector—which contributes $77 billion to the state’s economy and employs over 600,000 people—spans aerospace, defense, electronics, transportation, and much more. The state’s semiconductor boom has been particularly significant and includes winning over 60 semiconductor expansions since 2020 and hosting the SEMICON West convention this year.

At TechSmart, we will build on the momentum of high-tech industries by aligning industry, government, philanthropy, and education partners to build a tech talent ecosystem in which all students can succeed. Following our launch in October, we look forward to strengthening regional talent systems, piloting and scaling innovative career-connected learning models, and cultivating career interest, starting with the semiconductor industry. We are also excited to continue working with partners Jobs for the Future and Greater Phoenix Chamber Foundation to support Arizona learners in semiconductor apprenticeships and training programs as part of GitLab Foundation’s Powering Economic Opportunity Fund cohort.
